TIllamook State Forest (TSF) Browns Camp ~ Trail Adoption

Updated: Jul 31

We had been working on this trail adoption in the background for a few years Now. Many of you know how often we have been going to the tillamook state forest over the years. some of you know how hand n hand we have worked with Oregon Department Of Forestry Over the years. Some not so much. The OHV park's specialists in the Unit have a very hard job. They have over 250 square miles of forest to manage. An OHV park, prison camp, timber sales, fire closures, and events. Its a Bear of a job.

There has been a program in the department called adopt a trail. As a trails adaptors, you, we, are responsible for its maintenance, future, repars, erosion, trash, and downed trees and changes to the trail. Changes that are mutually beneficial to us (the user community) and the forestry service.

Saddle Up, Trail Number 16a, In the Tillamook State Forest

This place has a special place in my family's hearts. It was my son's first trail run, 15 years ago now, at only 4 weeks old when we adopted that trail under a former clubs banner (i was BOD at the time) Over the years since, It has been left in disrepair. I am one of the few people left still going up there that was a part of its recut, and remembers its original plan.

Baby steps, but i think you guys are going to like what we have in store for this project.

First step was to get official word that we are in. Reid Brown, at the forest grove office, has been wonderful to work with. he seems to share our vision and enthusiasm, as well as having assembled a team of like minded individuals trying to bring this thing to life. And to keep it running, within the tightening regulations, for decades to come. He awarded us the adoption of the trail, and we set a date to pick up signs, and go over the generals.

We had a previous date setup for a campout, sign hanging, and walkthrough of the trail. Thursday afternoon, 7/25/24, we were set to head out to Jordan Creek for the weekend. Hosting the community for projects like this is always the highlight of what i get to do.

It had been very hot so we had changed the venue from woods point, to jordan creek as to be as close to a cool off swimming spot as possible. turned out to be a hit with the group, and campers.

Thursday We got to camp, got setup and unloaded.

Pinkey, always with us

We had thought to see steve that night, but it had been a few hours. The boys and i set out to grab some firewood. no saws, or trail from 1 to 8pm D/T fire danger, so it was time to them to earn they's keep.

Well done boys, i guess ill feed you. . .

Got a sticker station setup.

By this time we wanted to head up and take a look at the trail, thats when we found steve, camped up the road about a mile from us. he had made it up an hour before us, and we had yet to hang the sign. DOH! he was in good spirits as usual, and turned out to be a blessing for him, as strom would have been way to over stimulated in the camp we had going.

thanks for coming out steve-n-strom!

The Trail looked good, my son had a basketball tournament he had to dip out for on saturday, having the history, he wanted to be a part of it. so we decided to hang a sign and take some pictures.

Can you tell, they are just as proud as we are. I love it!

We got a good look at the moderate section of the trail, hung a sign, and made a solid list and plan for our next run up the hill. look for the post in the next couple weeks! After that we were ready for some foods, and a dust free night around the campfire.

Mom and josh headed back to civilization, dad and gwen cooked up a most kiler steak dinner. Cody and Fam, As well as Roger and kids showed up as planned.

Saturday was filled with mostly good ole family style camping. we hung around the fire, ate crap food, swam, watched kids run, and over all just let it hang out. it was really nice, and nice to be in a spot like jordan creek. our 1st time staying there, we will be back.

Coco in the morning!

Cody on his "Drop the wife off at work" trip.

Before we knew it, there was a child in a tree. Oh Boyz.

Thank you all who came out to the 1st trail run and adoption walk through. the 1pm to 8pm ban on trail wheeling really threw a hex into the timing of people arriving to camp, and the group leaving to go do a walk through. next time, i will be more discipline about leave and meetup times for trail works.

I appreciate each and every one of you, more than you know.

Thanks for a killer, family friendly weekend! Cheers!

Short vid to follow.

Bronze.
